MARK A. LOYD, ESQ., is an Attorney and Partner in the Louisville, KY, office of Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP, a business law firm with offices in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. He is the Chair of its Tax & Finance Practice Group. His areas of practice concentration are state, local and federal tax controversy resolution, litigation and planning. Mr. Loyd concentrates his practice in Kentucky and Indiana. He acts as an advocate for resolving disputes with state and local tax authorities (e.g., Kentucky Department of Revenue, Indiana Department of Revenue, Louisville Metro Revenue Commission, etc.) as well as federal administrative agencies including the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Commodity Credit Corporation.
Mark has counseled and advocated for clients involving state and local income, gross receipts, sales and use, property, franchise/License and various excise taxes (e.g., cigarette, other tobacco products, motor fuel, motor vehicle, U-Drive-It, etc.) as well as federal income and excise taxes for over 20 years. He is a former Chair of the Tax Section of the Kentucky Bar Association, Chair of the Tax Committee of the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants (Outstanding Chair 2005-2006 and 2006-2007), Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Educational Foundation of the KyCPA, and member of the KyCPA Board of Directors. He now serves as Chair of Park Community Federal Credit Union. Prior to joining Bingham Greenebaum Doll, Mr. Loyd managed the national multi-state tax function of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation, a multi-billion dollar international manufacturer, importer and exporter of consumer products. Mr. Loyd has written on tax matters in publications such as State Tax Notes and the Journal of State Taxation and chairs the Editorial Board of The Kentucky CPA Journal. He has been a speaker and panelist on various tax matters at conferences, forums and for groups such as the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, the Federation of Tax Administrators and others.
