Steve Kaplan is a partner in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office and the practice co-leader for the firm's Financial Services Regulatory and Enforcement Group. Steve concentrates his practice on regulatory matters related to consumer loans and other consumer financial products. He advises clients on compliance with federal and state laws governing licensing and practices of financial institutions, mortgage lenders, consumer finance companies, loan servicers, debt collectors and secondary market participants. He represents clients in federal and state supervisory matters and investigations. Steve was nationally ranked by Chambers USA 2013-2016 under Financial Services Regulation: Consumer Finance (Compliance). He was listed in Best Lawyers in America 2012-2016 for banking and finance law.
Steve is a frequent lecturer at seminars and conferences sponsored by industry-related groups on various legal issues relating to consumer financial products. He has written articles on various issues relating to consumer financial products, including the CFPB and federal and state consumer regulatory compliance issues.
